Hip Resurfacing Surgery
Chandigarh

A bone-conserving alternative to total hip replacement. Hip resurfacing is ideal for younger, active patients who want to preserve their natural femoral bone while eliminating arthritis pain.

The Procedure

What is Hip Resurfacing?

In hip resurfacing, the damaged surface of the femoral head (ball) is trimmed and capped with a metal prosthesis — rather than removing the entire femoral head as in total hip replacement. The hip socket is also lined with a metal cup.

This approach preserves more of the natural bone, which makes revision surgery easier if ever needed in the future. It is particularly well-suited to younger patients (under 60) who are physically active and have good bone quality.

However, hip resurfacing is not suitable for all patients — those with poor bone density, female patients (higher failure rate due to smaller bone size), or patients with AVN may be better candidates for total hip replacement.

Who is a Good Candidate?

Age under 60 with high activity demands
Male patients with good femoral head bone quality
Hip arthritis without significant bone loss
Patients who want to return to high-activity sports
No history of metal allergy or sensitivity
